For a long time, I denied being a ‘typical FIFO family’ and for too long I thought my parenting was just about surviving. For 19 years my husband and I have ridden the waves of FIFO life. Our adult children have different perceptions I’m sure, but I’m proud they have grown into resilient, competent young adults and learnt to brave the dark and even deal with a snake on the days Dad was away. We have managed major adolescent experiments and challenges and still remain a connected, loving family of four. I’ve learnt the most from my family and it is the constant desire to find a better way that brings me to your service.

My Counselling Style

I follow your lead as you drive the bus, as fast or as slow as you like, turning into which ever issue is the most important for you today. I applaud you already, you have started your own engine so please feel reassured I’m right next you. If you feel a little nervous – remember learning to drive, you just need knowledge, support and practice. Counselling can help you learn new skills which eventually will be second nature and create a life full of new adventures, richer relationships, and ability to look back with acceptance.

What these letters mean…

I used to be a teacher (primary and high school). I started my Diploma of Counselling when I realised schools do not educate well enough for boys. I believed there were no ‘naughty boys’, there were boys who never get an opportunity to express themselves in ways that align comfortably with their nature, and it might not actually be the parents’ to blame! Being hungry for more theory and interventions, I thrived in my Bachelor of Counselling. The decision to do my Master's in Social Work was to become an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker. I’m one of few Counsellors who can offer a Medicare rebate and Private Health rebates.
